Ip Man Ving Tsun Match, Hong Kong

Wing Chun Indonesia proudly announced that it was invited to participate in a yearly Ip Man Ving Tsun tournament in Hong Kong on the 12th of April 2014. This is the first instance that Wing Chun Indonesia could compete in a worldwide tournament held by Ving Tsung Athletic Association (VTAA) – the first and the most accredited Wing Chun Organization in the world.

BoWC Team

Our participation in this tournament focuses on other things beside winning, such as introducing ourselves, learning and seeking experience from other countries, measuring and comparing our skills in Ip Man Wing Chun that we have trained in Indonesia so far. Winning the competition is never our main priority, as we believe that we are already a winner just by getting invited and be acknowledged as an even matched to other countries in the world.

Brotherhood of Wing Chun (BoWC) Indonesia has began a selection process since we received the official invitation from VTAA last year. The process also includes preparation and selection of all BoWC members from all around Indonesia. The chosen members need not to pay any fees to participate in the tournament as BoWC handled all the accommodation and transportation fees.

Indonesia’s tournament team consists of 8 people:

  • Two representatives for Taolu (forms) tournament:
    Destyan Adiwassesa (Male Category)
    Ika Sirana (Female Category)
  • Two representatives for Chi Sao (sticking hands) tournament:
    Christopher Salim
    Hartono Lukidi
  • Instructors and official members.

Below is the specification of tournament categories that we enter:

  • Taolu/Wing Chun Forms
Participants to show their skills in forms such as: Siu Lim Tao, Chum Kiu, Biu Gee, Chark Yiu, and Wooden Dummy.
  • Chi Sao/Sticking Hands Tournament
Participants to show the practical Ip Man Wing Chun movements in a pair with their hands sticking to each other.

The conditions for participants to enter the tournament are:

  • Only Ip Man Wing Chun to be used in the tournament.
  • The school’s instructor is a member of VTAA and is an official member of VTAA.
  • The school’s name doesn’t represent a certain individual.
